Senator Killion tours Devereux Independence Home

This week I got the chance to meet with residents and professionals at one of Devereux’s Independence group homes which gives people with cognitive differences the ability to live more independent and rewarding lives.

The dedicated professionals that work at these group homes help to make this living experience as much the residents’ own. Seeing it important to stress that the professionals are the guests in the home and not the other way around.

Celebrating Boeing’s 100th Anniversary

Senator McGarrigle and I helped celebrate Boeing’s 100th anniversary. It was also the 50th anniversary of the Delaware County location. Today Boeing employees 4,800 people in the region.

Senator Killion Takes Part in QVC Ribbon Cutting

On Wednesday I had the honor of joining QVC and the Chester County Food Bank’s ribbon cutting ceremony at Studio Park to celebrate QVC’s support of this innovative program.

QVC signed on as the premier corporate sponsor of the Fresh2You mobile market. Fresh2You, a program of the Chester County Food Bank, is a mobile market that aims to bring fresh produce, healthy food staples and nutrition education directly to underserved communities in Chester County. The mobile market will travel to 10 different areas around Chester County.

Preventing Home Burglaries

Summer vacations and weekend excursions may leave your home vulnerable to burglars, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The greatest number of burglaries occur in July, amplified by increased daylight and poorly secured doors and windows. The PSP report burglars break into a house, apartment or condominium every 11 minutes.

Take steps to protect your family and property from burglary:

  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Keep travel plans private.
  • Avoid notes on doors.
  • Pay attention to unfamiliar people and vehicles.
  • Break down and conceal under your trash the boxes from large purchases.
  • Install solid wood or steel exterior doors.
  • Remove, relocate, or trim landscaping elements serving as cover for burglars.
  • Secure ladders, screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, or other tools that may aid a burglar.
  • Use vertical bolts and a stick in your sliding glass door’s track.
  • Establish a Neighborhood Watch.

Review additional crime prevention recommendations from the PSP for a safe and secure summer.
